
Stock estimates for the EU
The following table gives an overview of existing EU estimates classified according to scientific criteria of quality:

AGGREGATED ESTIMATES
HWWI produced aggregated estimates of irregular foreign residents in the EU. The results for 2002, 2005 and 2008 show a clear decline in the stocks of irregular resident populations in the European Union over time (see the graph below). However, estimates have to be interpreted with care. See detailed discussion on methodology.

METHODOLOGY
The EU estimates rely on a collection, adjustment and classification of individual country estimates in all EU member states. Learn more about the method and the calculations for each year in the following documents:
